What is a GPA

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. A GPA is a number that indicates how high or well you’ve scored in your classes/courses on average. It basically scores you by how good your grades are.

Every grade you get corresponds to a quality point. This point is usually scored on a 4.0 scale between 0 and 4 (or a multiple of 4 sometimes). Basically the highest grade you get ( in the American grading system is an A) would equal to a 4 or a multiple of 4 ( 8 or 16). After you take a few classes, all of the points from the grades are added up and divided by the number of classes or credits you take and the end total of the numbers is your GPA.

A GPA is very important for your future. People will look at your GPA to find out if you’re academically successful. It could help you get into colleges, jobs, clubs and other organizations.

Here’s an example to show what your grades and gpa would be

Most colleges and organizations look for at least a 2.0 GPA, which would be a C grade average. If you took 6 classes and had 3 A’s, 2 B’s and a C, your gpa would be 3.3 gpa.

Maintaining a good gpa is good to do, but not everything, It’s always good to seek out for help if you’re ever struggling with your grades or mental health. Jayde Munson said school and grades have made a big impact on her mental health. She said it makes her stressed and overwhelmed with the amount of homework she receives.

I interviewed some people at lunch and 10 out of 12 people said that they don’t know how to calculate a GPA, calculating your gpa is something most people should know but don’t.
