Love is in the air and Valentine’s day is a day about love, right? Well, let’s give you some reasons to love this holiday. On February 14th people give cards and gifts to their “Valentine.” According to History of Valentine’s day, this holiday all started with the Roman ritual called “Lupercalia.”

Each Lupercalia began with the sacrifice by the Luperci of goats and a dog, after which two of the Luperci were led to the altar, their foreheads were touched with a bloody knife, and the blood was wiped off with wool dipped in milk; after that, the ritual required that the two young men laugh.

This ritual was performed on February 15th and the boys pulled the names of girls out of a box. On this particular day, people give gifts to one another and celebrate. “ The heart has its reasons of which reason know nothing,” said Blaise Pascal. As a result of all of this info, we can say that everything has grown, expanded and changed over the years.

St. Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century. He was a Roman priest and physician who suffered martyrdom during the persecution of Christians by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus about 270 A.D.
